Youth safety and safeguarding in skateboarding programs - SKATECUBE KIDS

Child Safeguarding & Protection

Creating safe, respectful, and supportive environments for all young people who participate in our programs and activities.

Our Commitment to Child Safety

SKATECUBE KIDS is fundamentally committed to creating safe, respectful, and supportive environments for all young people who participate in our programs and activities.

The safety and wellbeing of young people is our highest priority. Every aspect of our programs—from how activities are structured to who we involve as mentors and instructors—is designed with youth safety and positive development in mind.

We believe that young people thrive when they feel physically safe, emotionally supported, and genuinely respected. This commitment guides all of our work.

Safe and Positive Environments

Our skateboarding and creative activities are facilitated in ways that prioritize the physical, emotional, and social wellbeing of every participant.

Physical Safety

All skateboarding activities include safety instruction and require appropriate protective equipment. Instructors are trained in safety protocols and first aid. We maintain safe ratios of adults to youth participants and ensure environments are appropriate for skill levels.

Emotional Wellbeing

Our programs emphasize encouragement over competition and celebrate individual progress. We create environments where young people feel comfortable taking appropriate risks, making mistakes, and learning at their own pace without fear of judgment or pressure.

Respect and Inclusion

We foster a culture of mutual respect where bullying, discrimination, or exclusion are not tolerated. All participants are expected to treat others with kindness and respect, and adults model these behaviors consistently.

Adult Responsibility and Role Models

Adults and mentors involved with SKATECUBE KIDS programs are carefully selected and expected to uphold high standards of appropriate behavior and positive role modeling.

Appropriate Behavior

All adults maintain appropriate boundaries with young participants. Physical contact is limited to what is necessary for safety instruction (such as demonstrating proper stance or spotting during learning). Private one-on-one interactions are avoided, and all communication with youth participants is respectful and age-appropriate.

Positive Role Modeling

Instructors and mentors demonstrate the qualities we hope to nurture in young people: persistence, respect for others, encouragement, and a growth mindset. They model healthy ways of handling frustration, celebrating others' success, and treating all participants with dignity.

Respectful Communication

Adults speak to and about young people with respect. Language is encouraging and constructive. Yelling, harsh criticism, or demeaning comments have no place in our programs. We recognize that how adults communicate with young people directly impacts their sense of safety and self-worth.

Inclusivity and Respect

Diverse group of youth learning together in inclusive skateboarding community environment

All young people who participate in SKATECUBE KIDS programs are treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their background, ability, race, ethnicity, gender identity, family structure, or any other aspect of their identity.

We actively work to create inclusive environments where every young person feels welcome and valued. This means addressing exclusion or discriminatory behavior immediately and fostering a culture where differences are respected and celebrated.

Our programs are designed to be accessible to young people at all skill levels, and we adapt activities to ensure that participants with varying abilities can engage meaningfully. We believe that diversity strengthens our community and enriches the experiences of all participants.

Reporting Concerns

If you have concerns related to the safety or wellbeing of a young person involved with SKATECUBE KIDS, we want to hear from you. Learn more about our organization and commitment to ethical operations on our About page.

Parents, educators, community members, and young people themselves are encouraged to reach out if something doesn't feel right or if they observe behavior that raises concerns. Your voice matters in helping us maintain safe and supportive environments.

Safety is a Shared Responsibility

Creating safe environments for young people requires ongoing attention, clear communication, and a commitment from everyone involved. We're grateful to the parents, educators, community members, and young people who help us maintain spaces where youth can grow, learn, and thrive.
